PubhD Coimbra can “create discussions between people that don’t usually talk”

This month, we had a special edition, where 3 international students walked into a bar and we spoke in english. Closing the last edition of PubhD in the year 2023, Lennart Obster, originally from the Netherlands and now doing the Doctorate of Mathematics, talked about “The linearisation problem”. With strong use of the new PubhD whiteboard, Lennart believes that the public tried to understand “what’s happening”.

Why did you decide to participate in PubhD Coimbra?

I got the invitation and I thought it was a nice idea to participate in PubhD Coimbra. It is good when different people from different areas can come together, and I like that there are these “social events”, for you to talk about science and what the work that you are doing is! - try to create discussions between people that you don't usually talk to. I think that it is a very good thing.

How was your experience in this edition of PubhD Coimbra?

Nice! I think there were a lot of people asking good questions. Even though in 10 minutes you cannot say a lot about the work that you are doing as a PhD student, I still feel that people got at least a glimpse of what the students are doing and they really tried to understand what's happening - “why are you doing this?” - and I think that was very nice.

Would you advise other colleagues to participate?

Yes! For sure, yes. I really liked it.
