Institute of Anatomical and Molecular Pathology

The Institute of Anatomical & Molecular Pathology IAP-PM of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra – FMUC – exists since 1956 and the curricular unit of Anatomical Pathology since 1863. We are located in the historical center of Coimbra.

Since 2003, Professor Doctor Lina Carvalho is the Director of IAP-PM.

IAP -PM is engaged with Medical and Dental Medicine Students of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, Technical International Teaching as well as with scientific support and guidance for Master and Doctoral Theses and Post-Doc research, with or without the design of Research Projects in collaboration with the University of Coimbra and other Portuguese Universities.

Scientific and Community Service in the scope of Histopathology, Cytopathology and Molecular Pathology under Quality Control and Certification are available in all areas of Pathology.

Scientific Research work has been developed and is well established in different areas of Anatomical Pathology. The application of Molecular Pathology and Digital Pathology, particularly related to Experimental, Pulmonary, Urological, Digestive and Developmental Pathology has been recognized with national and international awards, reflecting the dynamism of Pathologists and Researchers up with experience and updated knowledge.

The Museum of Anatomical Pathology, located at IAP-PM, keeps models and samples since late XIX century and is open to Visitors and Researchers.
