About Coimbra
With almost 150, 000 inhabitants, the city of Coimbra is one of the most important cities in Portugal. Embraced by the Mondego River, was once the capital of the Portuguese kingdom.
Coimbra has plenty of historical buildings and places that should be visited, like the Machado de Castro Museum (where you can visit the Cryptoporticus); the ancient University of Coimbra, classified as UNESCO World Heritage in 2013; the Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra nearby the Aqueduct; the Arch and Tower of the Almedina; the Religious builidings (e.g. Santa Cruz Monastery; Sé Velha Cathedral; Sé Nova Cathedral; among others); the romantic gardens of Quinta das Lágrimas. Another reason to visit Coimbra is Fado de Coimbra which is a highly stylised genre of fado music originated in Coimbra.
However, nearby Coimbra we can find small villages that you might visit, like Mata do Bussaco in Luso, Mealhada; Roman Ruins in Condeixa-a-Nova; Atlantic Ocean in Figueira da Foz.

From Lisboa - there are frequent train and bus connections in a journey that takes approximately 120 minutes.
By train: From Santa Apolónia or Oriente train stations. By bus: From Sete Rios Terminal.
From Porto - there are frequent train and bus connections in a journey that takes approximately 60 minutes.

During your stay in Coimbra you should make your own arrangements for accommodation. Despite the ammount of hotels available, Coimbra is a touristic city and with several events (conferences and thecnical meetings), so it is highly recommended to book your accommodation at the earliest convenience.
The Organisation committee provide a list of some hotel's where you can take advantage of promotions.
