On the 7th of December, the University of Coimbra will host the 2023 Cochrane Portugal Annual Meeting, a not-for-profit organisation that provides high-quality information to help researchers, health professionals, patients, carers and others make better health decisions.

The 2023 meeting will address relevant themes to the scientific community, focusing on topics related to scientific reproducibility and the use of systematic reviews and meta-analyses, which are key to successful research and, consequently, to optimising evidence-based clinical practices.

The meeting will feature John Ioannidis, one of the world's most cited scientists and Professor at Stanford University (USA). He is also the ERA Chair Holder of the EXCELScIOR' project, which is being developed at the UC.

John Ioannidis is a prominent epidemiologist and scientist known for his work in meta-research, which involves the study of research methods and practices, often referred to as 'research into research.' He is dedicated to finding ways to enhance the reliability of evidence in biomedical and public health research. His contributions to the pursuit of 'scientific truth' and addressing the 'reproducibility crisis' stand as key pillars in the journey toward a more transparent scientific landscape.

The event starts at 14:15 in the Subunit 3 Amphitheatre, UC Campus III. Admission is open to the public, and registration is free but mandatory (please click here).

The programme also features Miguel Castelo-Branco, scientific coordinator of the UC Centre for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research (CIBIT); Paulo Oliveira, vice-president (and researcher) of the UC Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC-UC) and coordinator of the 'EXCELScIOR' project; as well as several members of Cochrane Portugal.

The 2023 Cochrane Portugal Meeting is organised by CIBIT, the Faculty of Medicine of the UC (FMUC), Cochrane Portugal and the Central Region Section of the Portuguese Medical Association.
