University of Coimbra collaborates with the Philippines in the field of human rights

The agreement signed aims to develop and collaborate in the strategic promotion and advancement of forensic science in humanitarian action and human rights research in the Philippines.

On the 11th of April, the Senate Hall of the Rectory of the University of Coimbra (UC) hosted the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Human Rights Commission of the Republic of the Philippines and the UC, in the framework of the Coimbra University Centre for Humanitarian and Human Rights Forensic Research and Training.
The agreement signed focuses on the development and cooperation in the strategic promotion and advancement of forensic science in humanitarian action and human rights research in the Philippines, as part of the implementation of the Governance in Justice II - Human Rights (GOJUST II Human Rights) project funded by the European Union and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

The Philippine Commission on Human Rights was represented by its President, Richard Paat Palpalatoc. The UC was represented by the Vice Rector for External Relations and Alumni, João Nuno Calvão da Silva, the Director of the UC Faculty of Medicine, Carlos Robalo Cordeiro, and the Executive Director of the FMUC Centre for Forensic Research and Training in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action, Duarte Nuno Vieira.
