WPS European Swimming Championships: Diogo Cancela wins double silver and Tomás Cordeiro breaks national records

The European Para Swimming Championships were held from 21 to 27 April in Funchal, Madeira.

Diogo Cancela, a student at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), and Tomás Cordeiro, a student at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the UC (FPCEUC), excelled at the World Para Swimming (WPS) European Championships.

FCTUC student Diogo Cancela stood on the podium twice to take the silver medal. Once in the 100m butterfly S8 with a time of 1:04.84 minutes and again in the 200m freestyle S8 with a time of 2:27.82 minutes.

FPCEUC's Tomás Cordeiro finished fourth in the 200m Breaststroke S10 with 2:16.83 minutes and eighth in the 100m Backstroke S10 with 1:03.15 minutes, setting two national records in each event.

The European Para Swimming Championships were held from 21 to 27 April in Funchal, at the Penteada Olympic Swimming Complex in Madeira.
