The Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra (JBUC) is once again celebrating the International Fascination of Plants Day on Saturday, the 18th, from 10 am to 4:30 pm, by organising several initiatives, such as hands-on activities and workshops for families.

“From tiny seeds sown in the soil, a myriad of wonderful green creations can grow - from tiny herbs to towering trees, from exquisite flowers to nutritious crops that feed both animals and humans, all breathing life into our incredible planet. The total number of plant species is estimated to be around 250,000. "Through a coordinated global campaign, International Fascination of Plants Day aims to sow numerous virtual and ever-germinating seeds in the collective mind of the public, conveying a clear message: the science of plants is vital now and in the future." say the initiative's organisers.

The programme includes the workshops 'How to care for your indoor plants' and 'Simplifying Orchids: Guidelines for successful cultivation', and the workshop for families (with children aged six to ten) 'Plants are fascinating'. All activities are subject to prior registration at https://www.uc.pt/jardimbotanico/agenda/dia-internacional-do-fascinio-das-plantas-2024/.*
