UC welcomes international researchers for course on radon monitoring, prevention and remediation measures in buildings

From the 22nd to the 26th of January, the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) will welcome dozens of international researchers for a course on measures to monitor, prevent and remediate radon gas in buildings, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA).

This course has the support and participation of the Natural Radioactivity Laboratory (LRN) of the Department of Earth Sciences (DCT), the Portuguese Environment Agency, the Minas Gerais Development Company and the European Association of Radon Specialists (ERA) . The city of Coimbra was chosen to host the course due to the work that has been developed at LRN in this area.

Key topics that will be covered during the course include effects of radon exposure, sources of radon, measurement and quality assurance protocols, radon prevention and mitigation techniques, and risk communication and public engagement.

The course has representatives from 22 countries, Europe and Asia. External trainers come from the United States of America, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.
