The 4th session of Science at DCT will take place on October 11th, at Amphitheater A, at 2:15 pm, this time hosted by Prof. Pedro Costa (DCT) under the title Scientific portraits of oceanographic campaigns:
Tsunamis, storms, floods and climate change in the sedimentary record.

In the search for past evidence of tsunamis, storms, floods and climate change, the lithostratigraphic record in the proximal shelf areas has turned out to be a very rich archive. In these areas it has been possible to detect sedimentological signatures of several abrupt events that mark the evolution of a set of coastal areas along the Atlantic margins (Cádiz, SW Iberia, Scotland and Norway).

In this presentation, its main sedimentological characteristics will be summarized and the consequences of these events for the entire Atlantic basin will be discussed. Experiences during oceanographic campaigns will also be shared and the conceptual, methodological and scientific principles of this type of work will be discussed.
