Field trip from the discipline of Sedimentology

On the 4th of November, there was a field trip of the discipline of Sedimentology, of the degree in Geology, to Peniche. Among sedimentological characterization exercises, students had the opportunity to observe one of the most complete sections of the Portuguese Lower Jurassic, and to understand all the sedimentary evolution, of marine origin, contained in a record that involves more than 20 million of the Earth's history. Through "in situ" observation and sedimentological criteria, it was possible, for example, to understand that around 180 million years ago the Berlenga granite massif would have been immersed in an epicontinental sea environment.
