National Contest of Access and Admission

The National Contest of Access is organised in three application phases. The actions of the National Contest of Access and Admission to the Public Higher Education concerning the Enrolment and Registration for the 2023/2024 Academic Year may be checked at the Calendar of the National Contest of Access and Admission approved by the Dispatch no. 5260/2023 of 8th May.

The number of places to be made available for each course in each higher education institution is annually fixed and disseminated along with the Application’s Guidebook. The fixed places are available at the first phase of the contest. In general terms, at the subsequent phases there are places that were not occupied by applicants placed and enrolled in the previous phase(s).

In the 1st Phase of the National Contest of Access and Admission the fixed places are distributes among a general contingent and priority contingents (applicants from the Azores, applicants from Madeira, Portuguese emigrant applicants, their relatives and Portuguese descendants, service person applicants under a contract, disabled applicants, applicants benefiting from Social Action) to whom certain percentages of places are allocated. If the student is not placed/admitted by means of this systems, then, in the seriation process, he/she will still apply for the places of the general contingent.

In the 2nd phase of the National Contest the places established for each course in each Higher Education Institution are distributed among a general contingent and two priority contingents: applicants with disabilities and emigrant applicants, their relatives and Portuguese descendants.

In the 3rd phase of the National Contest the places established for each course in each higher education institution are distributed among a single contingent.
