Ana Maria Teixeira, professor at the Faculty of Sports Science and Physical Education of the University of Coimbra (FCDEF-UC) is the new President of ISEI –“International Society of Exercise and Immunology”. Ana Maria Teixeira took office during the 14th ISEI International Symposium in Shanghai (China)

Founded in 1993, ISEI aims to promote research, education and dissemination of scientific information and brings together over 700 specialists – immunologists, biochemists, physicians, physiologists, physiotherapists and coaches, among others – from around the world. The main focus of this multidisciplinary organization is to provide practical and valid information to the scientific community, promoting research aimed at improving health, prevention and treatment of diseases through physical activity.

According to Ana Maria Teixeira, the priorities for her current term of office are “establishing cooperation networks between research groups with representation at ISEI, improving the website and ISEI's visibility in digital media”. However, the list of projects does not stop here. “Every year the society publishes the highly recognised journal “Exercise Immunology Review” and is responsible for organizing the biannual symposium which brings together international experts in all fields of exercise immunology to present and discuss state-of-the-art research and emerging conceptual advances. After Coimbra, in 2017, and Shanghai, in 2019, Tucson, Arizona (USA) will be the next host in 2021”, concludes the FCDEF-UC professor.
