The cultural dimension of Portuguese influence in the world is broader than the former geo-political dimensions of the Empire. The Portuguese went far beyond it, which produced transculturalities are gradual absorbed by postcolonialism. Its geographical space encompasses Nagasaki and Río dela Plata, Newark and Timor. Its time span stretches from the Christian Reconquista to the integration of Macau in China.
In this way, patrimonies are perceived as construction, heritage and belonging in a plural and broad sense – forms and narratives; sounds that are noises, speech and music; movements that are work, dance and acting; ambiances and atmospheres, etc. Influence over several angles and levels of interculturality: formal and informal, administrative or spiritual, commercial or migrational, colonial and postcolonial.
Objectives
Advanced training in research methods and knowledge production, development in group and network working skills in cultural frameworks and deep knowledge of the geography, the places, the resources and the narratives which constitute this cultural universe. A solid theoretical basis on “memory” and “representation”.
Duration of the Course
8 Semesters.
Admission criteria
The following requirements should be met for the successful application in this PhD programme:
- M.sc. degree holders or equivalent;
- Teaching assistants with certification of pedagogic and scientific capacity;
- Degree holders with suitable relevant academic and scientific record for this porgramme;
- Candidates are selected on the basis of their suitability for the course proposed in terms of academic, scientific or professional record.
