The subjective cognitive decline questionnaire (SCD-Q): A validation study. Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, 41(2), 453–466. http://doi.org/10.3233/JAD-132027

Theoretical background

The SCD-Q was designed according to the earliest symptoms of the Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), to quantify the perceived subjective cognitive decline. This questionnaire assesses the decline of other cognitive domains further than memory, over the last two years. Considering the set of features presented on the SCD-Q, the identification of the presence of preclinical AD is easier due to the inclusion of the informant’s report in parallel for the same cognitive changes addressed in the 24 questions.

Description

Assessment Domain: cognitive decline complaints

Type of instrument: Questionnaire.

Administration: Self-response only for the informants; 10 minutes for both versions (patient and informant).

Population: ≥ 45 years old (Adults and elderly).

Studies

The SCD-Q studies were conducted within the project “Aging and Cognitive Decline in the Portuguese Population: Incidence, profiles, risk and protective factors” (IF/FCT/01325/2015), including the transcultural for the constitution of the Portuguese final version.
Currently, there are in course normative, psychometric and clinical validation studies (with Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s disease patients) of the SCD-Q for the Portuguese population.

Future research

PsyAssessmentLab is available to actively collaborate in any research projects related to this instrument, including normative and validation studies.

Funding

The research studies of the SCD-Q was supported by the project granted to the first author from Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT, Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia) [IF/FCT/01325/2015].
