Theoretical background
The Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices (MPCR) test is a paper-and-pencil instrument traditionally used to assess nonverbal intelligence. More specifically, and depending on the profile score obtained, the MPCR test examines nonverbal perceptual and/or abstract reasoning. This test can be administered in group or individually to children between 6 and 11 years old (there are independent normative data for these ages and two application conditions), as well with preschool children and older adults.
The RCPM consists three sets (A, Ab and B) of twelve items. Each item is composed by geometric figures matrix printed with a brightly coloured background, making the test more appealing to children. Children choose the missing element from six options. The items are arranged in increasing level of difficulty. One point is given for each correct answer and the total score is the sum of the correct answers (maximum score of 36 points).
