Theoretical background

The ICU is a 24-item self-report scale designed to assess callous–unemotional traits in youth. It consists of three independent factors, namely: Callousness, Unemotional, and Uncaring. Each item is scored on a four-point ordinal scale (ranging from 0 = Not at all true to 3 = Definitely true). Scores are calculated by reverse-scoring the positively worded items and then summing the items. Higher scores indicate an increased presence of CU traits.
