Theoretical background

The TISES is a self-report tool that measures teacher’s self-efficacy and sense of trust in their skills in three different interpersonal activities in school settings: (1) classroom and students’ behavior management, which is not directly related with their learning abilities; (2) eliciting support from colleagues; and (3) eliciting support from principals.

Description

Assessment Domain: Behavior.

Type of Instrument: Self-report questionnaire.

Number of items: 24 items, Likert-type response, with 6 levels (from “Totally Disagree” to “Totally Agree”).

Application: Individual or group, 5 minutes.

Population: Teachers and educators.

Dimensions

The TISES is a scale comprised of 24 items that are organized around a 3-factor structure: Classroom management (14 items), Eliciting Support from Colleagues (5 items), and in Eliciting Support from Principals (5 items).

Studies

The TISES has studies with samples of teachers and educators. It is currently being validated in several countries (Netherlands, Portugal, Turkey, etc.), and given its properties in measuring teachers’ self-efficacy, it has been utilized in the development of other self-efficacy assessment scales.

Future research

The Portuguese version of the TISES can be used for clinical and research purposes. The PsyassessementLab is available to collaborate in research projects focused on this instrument.
