Master's Classical Studies

The Master’s in Classical Studies allows to continue the degree in Classical Studies and also allows a specialization in this area to other degrees, such as Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Philosophy, History, Art, Law… Students who present dissertations can apply for PhD courses, but it is also possible to opt for a project work or an internship. The simple approval on the 1st year also offers a supplement to the diploma.

The master’s degree is divided into four areas of study:

  • Poetics and hermeneutics
  • Ancient world
  • Classical cultures and literatures
  • Medieval and Renaissance studies

Goals

  1. Develop and deepen, in a critical manner, the knowledge obtained at the level of the 1st cycle of studies;
  2. know the matrices of the Greek-Roman civilisation and the artistic and identity manifestations that are at the basis of European cultures;
  3. identify the vitality of classical legacy in medieval and Renaissance neo-latin and byzantine cultures;
  4. recognize in modern culture aspects of continuity and rupture in relation to the classical tradition in terms of form, themes and artistic expression;
  5. know the thought and work of the main authors of the ancient world;
  6. apply classical thinking to the interpretative analysis of contemporary cultural multiplicity;
  7. deepen knowledge and experiences in cultural intervention, to develop professional activity in this area;
  8. independently plan and develop personal research and present conclusions in the form of a dissertation, project, or report.
