New publication! The InBIO Barcoding Initiative Database: DNA barcodes of Iberian Bees

Identifying bees is now easier! This is the motto of the most recent publication in collaboration with FLOWer Lab!
In this scientific article in the Biodiversity Data Journal (Pensoft Publishers) entitled ‘The InBIO Barcoding Initiative Database: DNA barcodes of Iberian Bees’, DNA barcodes are provided that make it possible to distinguish 514 species of Iberian bees.
The species included represent around 47 per cent of the diversity of Iberian bee species and 21 per cent of the diversity of endemic species, complementing pre-existing data. If we consider the bees present in Portugal, we now know the DNA barcodes of 91 per cent of the species.
This work was led by Sónia Ferreira from BIOPOLIS-Cibio and, in addition to three members of the FLOWer Lab, includes an international team of researchers specialising in bee identification.
The work is taking place in the context of the Biodiversity Genomics Europe project, the largest European project linked to genomics to study biodiversity and is interconnected with other national projects such as Cultivar, and with ongoing European projects on taxonomy (Orbit, ARCADE), red lists (Pulse) and population trends (Safeguard).
