New scientific study from the FLOWer Lab team in the news!
A new study led by the FLOWer Lab at the Centre for Functional Ecology - Science for People & the Planet has just been released!
This work, carried out as part of the doctoral thesis of researcher Catarina Siopa, had the contribution of researchers Sílvia Castro, Helena Castro, and João Loureiro from the FLOWer Lab and Luisa Carvalheiro from the Federal University of Goiás.
The scientific article ‘Animal-pollinated crops and cultivars - a quantitative assessment of Pollinator Dependence values and evaluation of methodological approaches’, now published in the Journal of Applied Ecology (British Ecological Society), reveals that in 74% of crops pollinated by animals, more than 40% of their production depends on these vectors!
What's more, this study highlights the underestimation of pollinator dependency values, which until this publication were out of date!
