The 2023 CIBB Annual Meeting will be held tomorrow, the 20th, promoted by the Centre for Innovation in Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CIBB), a consortium that brings together three research centres from the University of Coimbra (UC): The Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC-UC), the Coimbra Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research (iCBR) and the Centre for Health Studies and Research (CEISUC). According to Luís Pereira de Almeida, the CIBB coordinator and President of CNC-UC, “CIBB currently brings together over 600 researchers and support staff, including 350 PhDs. It stands as one of the largest research centres in Portugal, the largest at the UC, and produces more than 400 papers per year, which rank among the top 25% worldwide.”

The event will feature a range of activities, including presentations of ongoing innovative research projects at the three UC research centres that make up the consortium and will take place from 9 am to 8 pm in the Auditorium of the Central Unit of the UC Faculty of Medicine, at Polo III [Health Sciences Campus].

The meeting will cover emerging research topics in CIBB's research areas - neuroscience, metabolism and innovative therapies - as well as science communication, innovation and technology transfer. There will also be time for participants to interact, get to know each other and exchange ideas.

Luis Pereira de Almeida highlights that "participants will have the opportunity to attend talks by renowned experts, and engage in discussions on a wide range of topics, showcasing the best biomedical and biotechnological research being carried out at CIBB and in our country. The Annual Meeting serves as a platform for CIBB researchers to come together, not only to discuss scientific advances and celebrate the achievements of the past year, but also to spark new ideas and foster scientific collaborations for the coming year".
