The University of Coimbra (UC) has officially joined the 2nd edition of the Green Deal on Circular Procurement in the Centro Region, by signing a Letter of Commitment with the Centro Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRC Centro), which aims to promote the circular economy.

During the term of this agreement - between September 2024 and June 2025 - the signatory entities will benefit from a training and support programme to implement circular procurement tenders in line with the principles of the circular economy.

This is the first time that UC has joined the initiative of the CCDR Centro, which has now extended the invitation to the region's higher education institutions. Joining the Green Deal on Circular Procurement in the Centro Region is another step in UC's sustainable development journey, contributing to implementing the Centro Region's circular economy agenda, and the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals.

Circular public procurement is a process that allows public entities to purchase products, goods and services that have a reduced environmental impact, to reduce the consumption of energy and materials, avoid negative impacts and waste production throughout their life cycle.
