Cláudia Seabra, a professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra (FLUC) and a researcher at the Centre of Studies on Geography and Spatial Planning (CEGOT) of the University of Coimbra (UC), has been nominated for the Urban Tourism Research Hall of Fame.

This distinction highlights the excellence of her work in the field of urban tourism and is awarded by the International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA) and the editors of the International Journal of Tourism Cities (IJTC).

Researchers are nominated by a panel of members from ITSA and IJTC, based on criteria such as their number of citations of scientific articles and books in Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar, research impact, and time spent on research in their field.

Cláudia Seabra says that being nominated for the Urban Tourism Research Hall of Fame is "a huge challenge! She believes that an award like this makes you think about the importance of future endeavours rather than past achievements: "What's more important than what we've done is what we can and must do. She goes on to highlight the many challenges facing the tourism industry in urban destinations, stating: "The challenges facing urban tourism are indeed many. These destinations are under increasing pressure from tourism demand, resulting in a wide range of issues, particularly in terms of social, cultural, economic and environmental sustainability. Seabra stresses the urgency of addressing the growing risks faced by these sites, highlighting its complexity and the need for significant investment in further research".
