The Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) is organising an international competition for ideas in the field of circular bioeconomy.

The Circular Bioeconomy Challenge is open to applicants from the following southwestern countries: Spain, Italy, Portugal, Malta, Monaco and Andorra. The Online Call is open until the 28th of July 2024 (23:59 - CET).
Organised in the scope of the BioRural project, it aims to collect original ideas that enable the efficient valorisation of currently underutilised bioeconomy-related organic by-products/wastes.

Similar events will be held in the other three European regions (South-East, North-East and North-West). The three best applications from each region will be selected for the final phase, which will take place in Brussels in 2025. Besides qualifying for the European final, the three winners of the South West Challenge will have the opportunity to receive additional coaching from innovation facilitators and experts to improve their ideas.

The form and proposals must be submitted online by 28 July to be analysed by the evaluation committee, which will meet with each project's representatives.
At the end of this phase, ten to fifteen ideas will be selected to participate in the South West Final, scheduled to be held in the Spanish city of Valladolid in November.
