The University of Coimbra (UC) and Stemlab S.A., owner of the Crioestaminal brand, have signed a stem cell donation agreement to support the research activities of the Biology of Reproduction & Stem Cells group of the UC Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC-UC), led by Professor and researcher João Ramalho-Santos, who is also the current UC Vice-Rector for Research. The CNC-UC research group has been conducting research on the basic biology of gametes and stem cells, focusing on metabolic aspects in translational projects related to infertility, assisted reproduction and fertility preservation. The goal of this collaboration is to better understand the molecular mechanisms involved, in orderto improve clinical procedures.

Stemlab will provide anonymised samples of umbilical cord tissue cells/blood collected in the course of its activities, and no samples from clients of Crioestaminal are to ever be used. All donations are an integral part of the R&D Biobank, containing only samples donated for R&D purposes, with informed consent from donors.
