Two projects by two collectives associated with the Department of Architecture (DARQ) of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) have been shortlisted for the 'Mies van der Rohe Prize'.

The "Praça e Posto de Turismo Piódão" (Piódão Square and Tourist Office), by architects João Branco and Paula del Río, both doctoral students at the UC, and the "Edifício General Silveira" (General Silveira Building) in Porto, by architects Tiago Antero and Vítor Fernandes, both alumni of the department, are two of the three projects shortlisted for one of the most important architectural prizes in the world.

Officially known as the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, the Mies van der Rohe Prize aims to recognise and reward excellence in contemporary architecture within the EU.
