"My craft: Professor". Ernesto Costa gives his last lecture

Ernesto Costa, Full Professor at the Department of Informatics Engineering (DEI) of the University of Coimbra (UC), will give his last lecture on Wednesday 18th October, at 5 pm, at Auditorium Laginha Serafim (Campus II-Department of Civil Engineering), at the time of his jubilee.

"Ofício:Professor", roughly translated into English as "My craft: Professor" is the title chosen by Ernesto Costa as a tribute to the work developed throughout his path at the Department of Informatics Engineering (DEI) of the University of Coimbra.

Ernesto Costa was co-founder and first elected President of DEI between 1997 and 1999, and President of the Scientific Council between 2006 and 2008. He holds a 3rd cycle thesis in Computer Science from the University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris, France) and a PhD in Electronic Engineering from the University of Coimbra. He was also co-founder of the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC), which he chaired between 1998 and 2000. He founded and led the CISUC Artificial Intelligence Group (GIA) until 2003, when he set up and headed the Evolutionary and Complex Systems Group.

In 2009, Ernesto Costa received the EvoStar Award for Outstanding Contribution to Evolutionary Computation in Europe. He participated in several national and international projects, organised several international scientific events and published over 200 articles in books, journals and conference proceedings. e served on the General Council of the University of Coimbra from 2012-2018, when he stepped down to run for Rector of the University of Coimbra. He was an elected member of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra from 2020 until his retirement.
