Investiture Ceremony of the Rector and celebration of the Day of the University of Coimbra to be held on the 1st of March

The Great Hall of Acts will host both ceremonies, to be broadcast live.

Amílcar Falcão, reelected for a second term as Rector by the General Council of the University of Coimbra on the 6th of February, will be invested in a solemn ceremony to be held on the 1st of March at the Great Hall of the Acts (Sala dos Capelos), starting at 10h00. The investiture will be conferred by Professor Decanus Luís Miguel da Cruz Simões, of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology. After the investiture ceremony, the Rectoral team will take office in the Senate Room.

At 15h00, at the same venue, will be the time for the celebration of the UC 733rd Anniversary | Day of the University of Coimbra and the delivery of the UC Prize 2023, awarded to the lawyer and jurist Leonor Beleza.

The solemn session will feature speeches by the President of the General Council of the UC, Gabriela Figueiredo Dias, the coordinator of the UC Workers' Commission António Trindade, and the President of the Santander Portugal Foundation, Inês Oom de Sousa.

The presentation speech of the UC Prize winner will be given by Carlos Robalo Cordeiro, of the Faculty of Medicine of the UC, followed by an address by the awardee, Leonor Beleza, current Counsellor of State and President of the Champalimaud Foundation.

The ceremony will be concluded with a speech by the Rector of the University of Coimbra, Amílcar Falcão.

Both events will be live streamed at uc.pt/emdireto.

The solemn Mass of the Day of the University of Coimbra will take place at 19h30 at St. Michael’s Chapel.

The University Day celebrations will continue into the evening, with the opening concert of the 25th UC Cultural Week at TAGV, performed by the Academic Orchestra of the UC, at 21h30, under the theme "Horizon".
