The Herbarium of the University of Coimbra will participate for the first time in the global initiative "WeDigBio" (Worldwide Engagement for Digitising Biocollections), an event that combines data collection campaigns, a virtual science festival and science dissemination, to be held this Friday and Saturday (15th and 16th).

One of the main goals of the WeDigBio initiative is to make biodiversity data "hidden" in natural history collections accessible. People from all over the world are invited to take part in activities promoted by several institutions collaborating on this task, while getting to know the collections and broadening their knowledge about the importance of biodiversity.

The event at the Herbarium of the University of Coimbra will take place on Friday from 9am to 12.30pm and on Saturday from 2pm to 5.30pm. The programme includes a guided tour of the herbarium, followed by a transcription session using the EXPLORATOR platform (during which participants will be provided with infusions of various plants). Participants are expected to have a fun and relaxed time helping to 'unlock' thousands of data on the Herbarium's specimens.
