The Director of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra (FFUC), Fernando Ramos, was elected to the Executive Committee of the European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy (EAFP) during its General Assembly and Annual Conference held last week in Bergen, Norway.

At this meeting, it was also decided, upon the proposal of the FFUC Director, that the next EAFP Annual Conference will be held in Coimbra in May 2025.

The EAFP was founded in Paris (France) in 1992 to promote cooperation and support for teaching and research and to encourage the exchange of teachers, students and researchers, in order to guarantee and improve the quality of education and to create a common European area for university teaching and research in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.

"The EAFP has also worked to harmonise and develop European quality standards to guide learning methods and outcomes towards excellence. By harmonising quality standards in pharmaceutical education, the EAFP is the European Union's key partner in ensuring that graduates from Portugal and all higher education institutions in the European Union have the same quality standards and outcomes. This allows for the professional recognition of Portuguese pharmacists throughout Europe and facilitates their mobility and integration into the European labour market," says Fernando Ramos.

The FFUC Director's term of office as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy is two years (renewable for a maximum of eight years).
