The Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC) marks the opening of the 2023-24 academic year with a series of initiatives aimed at the academic community and the general public.

The programme runs for five weeks, with several important moments due to both the scientific relevance of the events and the debate on major current issues.

On 12 September, at 4.30pm, a seminar on "Artificial intelligence and pedagogy in higher education" will be held at the FEUC auditorium, conducted by António Dias de Figueiredo, retired Professor at FCTUC and an expert on technological innovation and pedagogy. Organised by FEUC's Commission for Quality and Pedagogical Innovation, the event will feature remarks by Paulo Peixoto (pro-rector of the UC and professor of Sociology at FEUC) and Rui Lourenço (professor of Scientific Management Methods at FEUC).

The opening lecture of the 2023/24 academic year will take place on 4 October at 3pm at the FEUC auditorium. Under the title "Democracy in a Digital World", it will be presented by Miguel Poiares Maduro (Director of the Global Law School at the Catholic University of Lisbon).

In addition to these two events, other initiatives are worth highlighting. On September 27, starting at 9.30am, the Conference "The Portuguese Economy and the 1973 Crisis", organised by FEUC's Economic and Social History Centre and the Portuguese Political Economy Association. On October 13 and 14, starting at 9.15am, there will be the Colloquium "Work, Economy and Society: emerging transversalities" , organised by the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra.

The opening of a photographic exhibition, the launch of publications, welcoming sessions for new students enrolled in the various degrees, initiatives carried out within the framework of FEUC's Employability and Business Office or as part of international networks are other moments that make up the list of activities that FEUC focuses on.

This programme is also part of FEUC's 50th anniversary celebrations, which run until 2 December 2023.
