On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April (also known as the Carnation Revolution), the UC Health Sciences Library (BCSUC) is hosting the travelling exhibition "A criação do Serviço Nacional de Saúde: a conquista de um direito (1974-1979)" [The establishment of the National Health Service: Conquering a Right (1974-1979)] from the 4th of March to the 30th of June. The exhibition results from a partnership between the BCSUC and the 25 April Documentation Centre of the University of Coimbra.

Sinopse

Synopsis:

Portugal's National Health Service (SNS), approved in 1979, is one of the greatest achievements of the April Revolution and the process of transformation that began in 1974. The travelling exhibition 'A criação do Serviço Nacional de Saúde: a conquista de um direito (1974-1979)' [The Creation of the National Health Service: Conquering a Right (1974-1979)] aims to tell the stories of the struggles that emerged after the April Revolution, leading to the establishment of the National Health Service in Portugal. Social movements, health workers, students and organisations developed initiatives to guarantee the right to health for all.

The travelling exhibition is based on the collections of the 25 April Documentation Centre of the University of Coimbra. It consists of six panels displaying historical documents that allow us to reconstruct the evolution of the National Health Service. Visitors can access these documents through different QR codes on each panel.
