Coimbra hosts ELO 2023: the Electronic Literature Organization Conference & Media Arts Festival

From the 12th to the 15th of July, Coimbra will host the Electronic Literature Organization (ELO) 2023 - International Conference and Media Arts Show, under the theme "Overcoming Divides: Electronic Literature and Social Change".

ELO 2023 will take place at São Francisco Convent, Exploratory-Live Science Centre of Coimbra and Gil Vicente Academic Theatre (TAGV), with the participation of around 200 researchers and artists, representing about 40 countries from all continents. Blending an academic programme of presentations, roundtables and workshops with an artistic programme of exhibitions and performances, the event aims to showcase the diversity of contemporary digital literature practices, as well as theoretical reflection on the algorithmic society, culture and art.

The event is organised by the Center for Portuguese Literature (CLP) of the University of Coimbra and the Electronic Literature Organization (ELO) and financed by national funds through FCT – Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.

Participation in the academic programme requires a registration fee. Exhibitions and performances are free and open to the general public.

Keynote speakers: Lori Emerson (University of Colorado at Boulder), Jussi Parikka (Aarhus University), Amira Hanafi (Carolina Coastal University).
