"No Princípio era o Fado" - "In the beginning was Fado", the celebration concert of the 10th anniversary of the classification of the University of Coimbra - Alta and Sofia as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will gather two core elements of the classified intangible heritage: Music (through the Coimbra Song - Fado - and the Coimbra guitar) and Language (through the spoken word related to the classified heritage). The event will feature around 60 singers, musicians, dancers, and audiovisual creators from the UC community, the Coimbra Students' Union (AAC,) and the Coimbra Fado art scene.

The event will take place at the Schools Patio on the 22nd of June at 9 pm. Tickets are free and can be collected, starting tomorrow (Friday, the 16th), at the UC Giftshop of Colégio de Jesus, and at the box office of São Francisco Convent - with a limit of four tickets per person.

Coimbra Fado (Coimbra song) is a priceless part of our intangible heritage and a very unique music genre, performed mainly by students and alumni. With an erudite component, it maintains its popular regional and local roots, with the spoken word as its main form of dissemination.
