The Winter School "Digital Media for Tourism in Creative Cities: experiences from the Centre of Portugal" will take place from 11 to 18 February 2024 in Portugal, as part of the UNESCO Chair in ICT to Develop and Promote Sustainable Tourism in World Heritage Sites, established in 2013 at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) in Lugano, Switzerland. It will be co-organised by the University of Coimbra and the European University of Lisbon.

Applications are open until the 11th of November 2023.

This Winter School focuses on the development and promotion of sustainable tourism in UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is aimed at doctoral students, researchers and professionals in the fields of tourism and cultural heritage. It also marks the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), launched in 2004 to promote cooperation among cities that use creativity as a key strategy for sustainable urban development.

Participants will be able to attend lectures, take part in scientific activities and get to know the intangible heritage of three Portuguese municipalities: the cities of Caldas da Rainha and Leiria, and the medieval town of Óbidos, where they will work together to address real current tourism challenges faced by these three Portuguese towns.

The 2024 USI UNESCO Chair Winter School is supported by Turismo Centro de Portugal (Tourism of central Portugal) and the municipalities of Leiria, Caldas da Rainha and Óbidos. More information is available here.
