Description

The course will be developed through a face-to-face and immersive approach, in a relaxed and engaging training environment that promotes the development of participants' skills in this area.

It is intended to discuss 'Best Practices' that make the orientation process more smooth and satisfying, minimizing the effort and stresses associated with this function. This training is also an opportunity to share constraints and problems that are daily experienced in the field of doctoral supervision.

The training is developed in a first part through the analysis of trends, data and "Best Practices" in this area, with individual and group exercises. In a second part, the training will consist in the analysis and discussion of real cases, in groups, in which measures and ways to mitigate the negative effects and/or solve daily problems will be presented.

Materials in various formats will also be presented for exploration prior to the training, and materials for all program topics will be made available for further exploration and support in the future.

Objectives of the Course

  • To integrate and guide doctoral students' supervisors (especially those who have recently assumed this function and those who intend to do so), enabling them to better deal with the constraints and problems in the area of thesis advising;
  • Create opportunities and spaces for sharing about problems and constraints experienced by teachers on a daily basis in the area of thesis advising;
  • Present specific bibliography and materials for support in the area of doctoral education;
  • To provide the acquisition of pedagogical and academic management skills, based on good practices for the supervision of doctoral students;
  • Promote greater efficiency in doctoral supervision (the acquisition and development of pedagogical skills in the area of doctoral supervision that minimize the effort and stresses associated with this function, while promoting academic progress and the quality of the educational experience of doctoral students).
