The photography exhibition INSIDE OUT was organised as part of the "Support for the Promotion of Scientific Culture" initiative, promoted by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra, and is open until the 25th of June at the UC Botanical Garden.

Cristina Nabais, biologist and professor at the Department of Life Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, explains that the goal of the exhibition is to “show features of the trees that most people don't know about”.

The exhibition is the result of a partnership between researchers of the Dendrochronology Laboratory of the Centre for Functional Ecology of the UC, the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC, DEI-FCTUC) and the Botanical Garden (JBUC), "a wonderful and very exciting collaboration between all research groups", adds Cristina Nabais.

With fifteen panels displayed throughout the garden, the public is invited to take a walk across the garden and learn about the anatomy of fifteen tree species. According to the organiser, "there is information provided about each tree species and its anatomy, so that visitors can get to know each tree a little better. In a tree anatomy photograph, you may see its aesthetic beauty. However, by reading a snippet of the text on each panel, you get to know the species a little more and how trees grow their trunk at the cellular level".
