The European Reference Sites Collaborative Network and the European Commission renewed the status of Reference Site of the Ageing@Coimbra consortium, with the top classification of 4 stars. The ceremony took place in Brussels on the 10th of October, and was attended by more than a hundred representatives of the European Active and Healthy Ageing Reference Sites. The consortium was represented by its coordinator, João Malva - University of Coimbra (UC), and Alexandra Rodrigues - Centre Region Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRC).

The University of Coimbra is a member of the Ageing@Coimbra collaborative network, which was founded in 2013 with core institutions based in the city of Coimbra.

This collaborative network currently includes over 90 entities in the Central Region of Portugal and runs major projects, including regional projects, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects, as well as the creation of the Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing (MIA-Portugal), the CoLAb4Ageing collaborative laboratory or the Excellence Hubs CHAngeing project, with an overall funding of over 60 million euros. Together, inspired by excellent scientific research, the partners implement and replicate innovative good practices to promote healthy living and active ageing for the benefit of Portuguese and European citizens.

Ageing@Coimbra had its recognition supported by three good practices of excellence, namely: 1) Regional Ecosystem for Ageing research; 2) Vida+ Móvel, Mobile Unit for Lifestyle Assessment; 3) Good Practice Award for Active and Healthy Ageing in the Central Region of Portugal.

Ageing@Coimbra was the first Active and Healthy Ageing Reference Site in Portugal. Its first award was granted in 2013.
