Amílcar Falcão reappointed as Rector of the University of Coimbra

Amílcar Celta Falcão Ramos Ferreira, sole candidate for the office, was reelected for the 2023-2027 term.

Amílcar Falcão has been reappointed as Rector of the University of Coimbra for the term 2023-2027. The announcement was made today by the President of the General Council of the UC, Gabriela Figueiredo Dias, after the plenary meeting held this morning, in which the election took place. The inauguration is scheduled for the 1st of March.

Amílcar Celta Falcão Ramos Ferreira, sole candidate for the office, received an affirmative vote of 87% - 27 members - in an election attended by 31 members of the General Council of the UC (four were absent due to force majeure).

Amílcar Falcão is 58 years old, holds a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (1989), a Doctorate (1995) and title of Aggregate in Pharmacy (2002 - Specialty of Pharmacology) from the University of Coimbra - where he has been a Full Professor since 2007. He was also Director of the Faculty of Pharmacy (2010-2012) and of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (2013-2019) and Vice-Rector of the University of Coimbra (2011-2019). He has been Rector of the institution since 2019.

The Rector of the University of Coimbra is elected at a plenary meeting of the General Council. The body is composed of 35 members: eighteen representatives of teaching and research staff, five Student Representatives, two representatives of non-academic staff and ten personalities of recognised merit from outside the University.
