Xavier de Basto decorated by the President of the Republic

The President of the Republic awarded José Guilherme Xavier de Basto, in a ceremony held on the 26th of January, the decoration of Grand Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique.

José Xavier de Basto, a retired FEUC researcher, is a personality whose service to the public cause spans decades. Among many other merits, we highlight the exercise of government functions, the investigation of themes that shaped the tax system, and the essential contribution to the architecture of the tax system in force in Portugal. His work constitutes a fundamental basis for understanding the rationale for taxes and the difficult choices facing tax legislators.

The distinction that was rightly granted to him recognizes this dedication and the value of his merits.

The Board of FEUC extends its greatest congratulations to the recipient, including all those who, at the Faculty, had the privilege of benefiting from his human dimension and scientific and pedagogical mastery.
