Presentation

In recent decades, crossed by two distinct global crises, the neoliberal counter-revolution has led to the erosion of labor rights, concentration of income and social lack of protection throughout the world, generating inequality and poverty. The proposed seminar will seek to reflect on the articulation between neoliberalism, work and social protection, having as reference the Brazilian and Portuguese cases. It will seek to demonstrate that very different countries, such as Brazil and Portugal, were recommended or imposed similar economic policies, which produced largely negative social and labor market impacts. In the two analyzed crises, and in both national contexts, it will be argued that the more distant from neoliberal precepts and policies, the more successful were the governmental responses.
