Researchers from the UCILeR have published reports under the project "Addressing gaps in the implementation and management of alternatives to imprisonment and post-release support during the COVID-19 global pandemic", coordinated by Penal Reform International and supported by the Fondation Internationale Pénale et Pénitentiaire (FIPP). The research team led by Dr. Anabela Miranda Rodrigues is composed of Drs. Maria João Antunes, Sónia Fidalgo, Inês Horta Pinto and Master Karla Ishiy.

The project, which ran from March to December 2021, aimed to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the execution of non-custodial sentences, the release of prisoners, and, in general, the functioning of social rehabilitation services. Research on the issue was carried out in four countries (Portugal, Hungary, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan). In addition to the research on the issue in Portugal, the UCILeR team has prepared a comparative study on the issue covering the European Union member states.

The report on Portugal is available here and the comparative study is published here.
