UCILeR launches "Right to My City" Contest

The World Cities Day Project – Right to Citizenship and Culture, developed by the UCILeR and the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra, promotes a contest aimed at students from the 3rd cycle and high school, with the aim of increasing the citizen participation of young people in urban regeneration. Registration must be made by December 31.

In order to promote artistic expression and reflection on the city from themes researched at the University of Coimbra and from the perspective and imagination of the young people involved, the UCILeR, through the Project World Day of Cities - Right to Citizenship and Culture, launches the contest "Right to my city". This contest has as main objectives to promote interdisciplinarity, associating Law to Culture and Arts and to raise awareness of the academic community and of Coimbra, especially young people, through participatory involvement for the promotion of a city with cultural identity, sustainable, fair and egalitarian. Participation is open to groups of 3rd cycle and high school students, guided by one or more teachers from schools in the municipality of Coimbra. The regulations are available on the project's page and the registration must be done by filling out the form.

The World Cities Day, celebrated on October 31st by UNESCO, was the motto for the dynamization of the activities of the Project. These activities include a walk through Coimbra's Upper Town, four "Conversations at School", which took place throughout the months of October and November, in the host schools Escola EB2,3 Rainha Santa Isabel, Escola Secundária D. Duarte, Escola Secundária José Duarte, Escola Secundária José Duarte, and Escola Secundária José Duarte. Duarte Secondary School, José Falcão Secondary School and Quinta das Flores Secondary School. Throughout the first quarter of 2023 the contest "Right to my city" and an exhibition of the works presented will take place from February 21 to March 31 at the Trindade College.

This project is promoted by the UCILeR and Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra with the collaboration of CAUS-Colégio das Artes, FCTUC-DARQ, CES, FLUC-CIECUC, FPCEUC-CEISXX (organic units and research centers of the University of Coimbra) and UA, having been one of the ten selected under the initiative "Promotion of Scientific Culture 2022" of the University of Coimbra.
