The project ELHEC-RA - Environmental Literacy in Higher Education Context for Preventing Radicalization in Climate Activism was approved in the Erasmus+ programme.

The project is coordinated by the University of Siena (Italy) and it aims to prevent radicalisation processes within the contexts of activism related to environmental sustainability issues and the fight against climate change by enhancing the environmental literacy of university students. The project intends to help university students develop a strong awareness and sense of responsibility (both individual and collective) with respect to environmental issues, by increasing their knowledge, skills, values and perspectives, as well as through their active involvement within their own community (university and local) in order to promote the emergence of a sense of positive interconnection with the same that favours the prevention of radicalisation linked to environmental activism and at the same time makes them actors of change. In order to do this, the project aims to provide participants with a vision that takes into account the complexity of environmental and social systems as well as a strong and effective problem-solving ability, through which they will be able to intervene in the systems with innovative and effective solutions that contribute to the resolution of the challenges related to climate change and environmental sustainability, while avoiding that their actions fall into radical positions and escalate in extreme and violent forms of protest.

The participation of the UCILeR is led by the researcher Alexandra Aragão.
