The UCILeR conducts training session on alternative sentencing and measures

From May 4 to 6, a training session on alternative sentences and measures to imprisonment took place at the Law School of the University of Coimbra, in the scope of the project "Promoting non-discriminatory alternatives to imprisonment across Europe", with the participation of magistrates, social reintegration technicians, researchers and mental health professionals.

Speakers included: Rob Allen (independent consultant in criminal justice and social reintegration), José de Almeida Brites (director of the O Companheiro association), William Themudo Gilman (Associate Justice), Ana Cristina Neves and Jorge Monteiro (DGRSP Division Chiefs), in addition to the research team from the UCILeR, Anabela Miranda Rodrigues, Maria João Antunes, Sónia Fidalgo, Inês Horta Pinto and Karla Ishiy.

On this occasion, the launch of the pilot project on the execution of non-custodial sentences and measures applied to people with mental health care needs was presented by Maria João Antunes (FDUC), Miguel Xavier (National Coordinator of Mental Health Policies), Francisco Navalho (Deputy General Director of Reintegration and Prison Services).
