The University of Coimbra Institute for Legal Research is organizing the event "The Contribution of Legal and Scientific Research to More Sustainable and More Responsible Companies. New avenues of collaboration between academia and business", on October 20, starting at 2:30 pm. The event takes place in a face-to-face and virtual format, free of charge, but with mandatoryregistration.

Companies, besides their importance in the functioning of the economy, play a fundamental role in social welfare. However, their relationship with the environment, on which they depend for the development of their activity, places them under the spotlight of public scrutiny with ever-increasing environmental care requirements.

In the academic world, much research is done on the business world. With or without funding, with or without the collaboration of companies, numerous advanced studies on business issues of great socio-environmental relevance are underway in universities, in law firms, in government ministries, business associations or civil society associations.

However, the research does not always answer the most pressing problems, does not integrate relevant information that is held by companies, or simply does not come to the attention of potential stakeholders: companies, competent authorities, associations, citizens.

The objective of this event on THE CONTRIBUTION OF LEGAL AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH TO MORE SUSTAINABLE AND MORE RESPONSIBLE COMPANIES. NEW WAYS OF COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE ACADEMIC AND BUSINESS WORLD, is to understand how researchers in Law and related areas (economics, management, marketing) can contribute to support companies to play their role as active participants in sustainable development, helping to improve business performance and corporate image while adapting their production model to environmental requirements.

During the event, concrete examples and case studies will be presented that show good practices in responsible research and innovation, using methodologies that can provide answers to issues relevant to business, society and the environment. Responsible research and innovation is that which is carried out with the participation of relevant stakeholders and actors, which respects ethical rules and good governance in research, which promotes gender balance, and whose results are made available in open access and in science education actions.

The objective of the event is twofold: to seek ways for a more responsible, more focused and more useful academic research and a more transparent, more efficient and more sustainable business performance.
