Our researchers Ana Margarida Gaudêncio and José Manuel Aroso Linhares participated in the 23rd International Roundtable for the Semiotics of Law (IRSL 2023: “Global Semiotics and Everyday Legal Claims /Intercultural Use of Law, Interreligious Dialogue and Translation”), which took place in Rome between the 24th and the 27th of May [see full programme here].

Ana Margarida Gaudêncio presented the paper “Reflexive Notes for a Semiotic Exercise on the Historical and Cultural Geographies of Human (juridical) Right’s Normative Content(s) and Structural Discourse(s)”.

Together with Anne Wagner, the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal for the Semiotics of Law, J. M. Aroso Linhares coordinated the workshop “Spatial Dynamics and Cultural Changes in Contemporary Legal Experience” (Workshop “Wagner – Linhares”), thus participating in the plenary opening and closing (report) sessions. In the context of that same workshop, he presented the paper “Translation, Intercultural Dialogue and the Mediation of Legal Semiotics”.

The first participation of Faculty researchers in this important cycle of meetings took place in 2008 (the year of the 7th International Roundtable). In 2019, UCILeR organized in Coimbra the 20th International Roundtable (“The Limits of Law”).
