The University of Coimbra Institute for Legal Research (UCILeR) presented an Escape Room game for the promotion of open access, during the European Researchers' Night (NEI) 2022, in Coimbra. The game was supported by BrainMaze, UCILeR's partner at NEI 2022.

Set in a near future where all scientific publications are available in open access, participants were confronted with a villain who had locked all publications. Through a sequence of puzzles, the players should discover the codes that would return open access to the scientific production of the University of Coimbra, while reflecting on the characteristics and advantages of open access.

The escape game was adapted by Fernando Borges, researcher at the IJ, and Verónia Quadros, scholarship holder of the Summer with Science 2022, based on the "workshop" version of the Open Access Escape Room, developed by Katrine Sundsbø, from the University of Essex, and available under CC By License. Translated into Portuguese and adapted for Coimbra themes with publications by tUCILeR, the game presented at NEI 2022 is a reduced version to be played in the street, by those visiting the UCILeR's space.
