Globalization, Economics and Law

The research area "Globalization, Economics and Law" offers a proposal for the study of public policies bearing in mind the imperative(s) for sustainable development goals and globalization, as contemporary societal challenges.

The current challenges posed by the globalization process demand a solid and quick response from the policy-making point of view. The mobility of people, goods and capital, allied to the technological revolution, economic integration, demographic changes, environmental protection or public health originate, continuously, problems. In this respect, the law and the economics discussion can contribute significantly to find solutions.

The referred dynamics impose economic and financial developments but also restraints, and the situations of social emergency require, often, disruptive solutions. Therefore, an in-depth reflection is required in order to achieve structured and long-lasting responses, based on the principle of justice and efficiency and reflecting the heterogeneity of the issues discussed.

Although the main perspective is focused on a legal and economic analysis, it is essential to consider a multidisciplinary perspective, with a purpose to move forward and faster in the reflection and also in the search for constructive proposals materialized in initiatives that emphasize the importance of the academic research in supporting public policy measures.
