Crisis, Sustainability and Citizenship

Focused on the UN sustainable development goals associated with poverty eradication (1), securing clean water and sanitation (6), renewable and affordable energy (7), sustainable cities and communities (11), climate action (13), protection of marine (14) and terrestrial (15) life and peace, justice and effective institutions (16) and aligned with the European sustainable growth programme for 2030, this research area focuses on the right to climate and energy transition (both in urban and rural environments), sociality and combating poverty as well as building resilient communities, based on the responsibility of individual actions, transparency of institutions and efficiency of procedures.

The projects and research activities that it organises and in which its members participate in a network with researchers from other institutes, seek to contribute, fundamentally in the areas of public law, compliance and sanctioning law, to a global vision of the complexity that characterises current public policies and to increase national literacy in this area, to present a critical view of the normative solutions in force and to propose reforms.

The action also includes a training mission in close collaboration with the Portuguese-speaking legal communities.
